What is low self-esteem?
Low self-esteem is a term generally used to describe feelings of negativity towards yourself and lack of confidence. Low self-esteem can appear in your life at any time, it could follow a period of being bullied, at school, work or in your home; and can often be a side effect of domestic violence or abuse or a childhood trauma such as bereavement. However, this is not always the case, some people experience low self-esteem for no reason that they can pinpoint
How can this impact your life?
Low self-esteem can then bleed into other areas of your life in addition to the way you view yourself; people suffering from low self-esteem become hyper-vigilant to other people and their perception of what these people are thinking about them. The way in which you view how others think about you can then cause you to begin pulling away from the people in your life, can lead to you avoiding social situations and prevent you from forming new friendships or relationships.
Ongoing low self-esteem can then lead to other psychological conditions such as depression or anxiety or can lead to negative and damaging behaviours such as excess alcohol consumption and in extreme cases, drug use.
How can I help you?
Not everyone with low self-esteem will require intervention as this can be a short term symptom of a specific situation, and other support can have a dual effect on low self-esteem. However, if you have found that your self-esteem has been low for a prolonged period of time or that it is beginning to have a negative impact on other aspects of your life, then my help could be just what you need.
I pride myself on my holistic approach to your wellbeing – I aim to help in all areas that I can and specialise in helping through non-medical intervention. Initially, I will have a telephone conversation with you, where we will discuss any events or situations that have led to you experiencing low self-esteem or have contributed to an overall decline in your wellbeing.
After this consultation, I will arrange to begin the individual support plan, I have a calming relaxation area where I will carry out the behavioural change intervention needed to encourage the healing process to begin. In this safe space, we will explore the areas that have contributed to your low self-esteem and begin to incorporate a better thought process. I will work with you to change the way your mind has been instinctively sabotaging your progress and help you to build positive pathways in your overview of yourself and remove the damaging negative ones.
From past experience, I have found hypnotherapy especially effective in doing this, when you are in a state of hypnosis, you remain in control of yourself; however, you are more suggestible to my prompts. In this suggestible situation, I can help you to implant positive thought processes and a healthier outlook on yourself and your life which should help to eradicate the unhelpful voice, thoughts, feelings in your mind that are contributing to your low self-esteem.
